How can I make the background of an image transparent?

You can make the background of an image transparent by hiding the paper layer in the Layer palette and exporting it in PNG format.

Procedure

1. Open an image with a transparent background.

2. Click the visibility icon in the Layer palette to hide the paper layer.

If you hide the paper layer, the transparent area will appear as a checkerboard pattern.

3. To export, click the File menu > Export (single layer) > .png (PNG).

Note: Some formats, such as JPEG and BMP, do not carry over transparent information, so please be sure to export as a PNG.

If you want to edit the image afterwards, please save them as Clip Studio Paint format files (.clip).

Note

If you want to create an image with a transparent area when you create an image, uncheck Paper Color in the New dialog.

1. Select File menu > New and create a new canvas with Paper color unchecked.

The created canvas shows a checkerboard pattern in the transparent area.
