How do I add borders to images and text?

How to add borders to images and text in Clip Studio Paint.


Adding a border to the image in the layer

Turn on [Border effect] in the Layer Property palette to add a border to the drawing.


1. Select the layer you want to use the border effect on.
You can also select a layer folder.


2. Select Layer Property > [Effect] > [Border effect] > [Thickness of edges].



Note: If you cannot see the Layer Property palette, select [Window] menu > [Layer Property].


3. Adjust to get the desired border thickness.



(1) Set the thickness of the edges with the slider.

(2) Set edge color.

Clicking the color indicator opens the [Color settings] dialog box where you can set the color.
Click the [Fill] icon to set the selected drawing color.




Putting Edges to Text [PRO/EX]

You can add a border to text added with the [Text] tool.

Borders are added to individual text frames independently from the layer property’s border effects, so they can be used on text even if they are inside balloons.


1. Click the text with the text tool to edit it, and select the part you want to add a border.



2. Open [Sub Tool Detail] from the [Tool Property] palette.



3. Select [Text] from [Sub Tool Detail] and check [Edge].



4. Adjust to obtain desired border thickness.



(1) Set the thickness of the edges with the slider.

(2) Set edge color.

Clicking the color indicator displays the [Color settings] dialog box where you can set the color.



Note
Another way to add edges to text is by using the [Border effect] from the [Layer Property] palette.


However, this method adds borders to the entire layer.



Creating a border along a selection

This creates a border around a selected area.


1. Use the [Selection] tool to create a selection.



2. Select the desired border color.



Select [Edit] menu > [Outline Selection] to show the [Outline Selection] dialog box.



(1) Set the border type, line width, and if you want the border to include the canvas edge (if applicable).


(2) Click [OK].



Note
If [Edit] Menu > [Outline Selection] is greyed out, create a new layer to draw borders on from [Layer] > [New Raster Layer].


4. A border is created along the selection.
