How do I draw with symmetry?
The Symmetrical ruler in Clip Studio Paint allows you to draw symmetrical images.
Steps
1. Select the layer you want to draw with symmetry on.
2. Select the Ruler > Symmetrical tool.
Depending on the version you are using, the palette names may differ as follows.
- Tool Group palette > Sub Tool palette
3. In the Tool Settings palette, turn on Line symmetry.
Where is the Tool Settings palette?
PCs and tablets
You can view it with the Window menu > Tool Settings.
Smartphones
Press the icon in the image below.
Depending on the version you are using, the palette names may differ as follows.
- Tool Settings palette > Tool Property palette
4. You can make a Symmetrical ruler on the canvas by dragging from the point where you want the center line to be.
5. You will be able to draw symmetrically around the ruler line.
How to make the Eraser tool snap
With the Eraser tool selected, check Enable snapping in the Advanced Tool Settings palette.

Vector layers: How to snap symmetrical rulers to the center of objects
From Ver. 4.0 and later, symmetrical rulers can be snapped to the center of objects in vector layers.
Go to the View menu > Snap and check Snap to objects.

How to create a vertical ruler
Use Shift to draw a line
You can draw a vertical line by holding down Shift and dragging.
For the tablet or smartphone version, use Shift on the edge keyboard.
Draw lines at set angles
You can draw a vertical line by checking Snap angle in the Tool Settings palette and setting its value to 90.
Switching Symmetrical On/Off
Symmetrical drawing can be toggled on and off by selecting View menu > Snap > Snap to special rulers.
You can also turn it on and off by pressing the Snap to special rulers icon on the command bar.
If you don’t see the Snap to special rulers icon on the command bar, it can be added from the File menu > Command Bar Settings.
