The tool is stuck as the Eraser tool even when I try to change it
Question
The tool is stuck as the Eraser tool even when I try to change to a different pen or brush tool, and I can’t use any other tools. How can I use other tools?
Answer
There are a number of reasons why a tool may switch or become fixed.
Solutions may vary depending on the device, so please check any applicable solutions below.
If you are using a pen tablet or LCD monitor pen tablet
Checking the pen tablet driver
Please make sure that the version of the pen tablet driver installed on your computer is the latest version.
If you have an older version, follow the steps below to install the latest version.
1. Uninstall the driver and reboot your computer according to the instructions provided by your pen tablet manufacturer.
2. Download the latest version of the driver and install it.
3. Restart the computer and start up Clip Studio Paint and check its performance.
● If multiple pen tablet drivers are installed, it may impact operation. Uninstall all drivers and reinstall the drivers for the pen tablet you are currently using.
● Even if you are using the latest version of the Clip Studio Paint, please uninstall and reinstall it.
● If you have drivers from other manufacturers, please uninstall them as they may be conflicting with each other.
Check Preferences settings (Windows only)
If the issue does not improve after updating the pen tablet driver to the latest version, make sure that [Wintab] is checked in the Clip Studio Paint [Preferences].
1. Select the [File] menu > [Preferences].
2. Select the [Tablet] tab in [Preferences], check [Wintab] in [Tablet service to use], and click OK.
3. Restart Clip Studio Paint and check its performance.
If you are using a Windows tablet PC (the type that comes with a dedicated pen)
Check Preferences settings
If you are using a tablet PC, please select [Tablet PC] in [Tablet service to use] under [Preferences].
1. Select the [File] menu > [Preferences].
2. Select the [Tablet] tab in [Preferences], check [Tablet PC] in [Tablet service to use], and then click OK.
Removing the Pen Tablet Driver
If you have a pen tablet driver installed, please uninstall the driver as it may cause a conflict.
For the iPad Version
If you have a problem switching to the [Eraser] tool while using the iPad, please check the [Double-tap the stylus] setting.
Note:
Double-tap the stylus is a feature that can be set up with the Apple Pencil (2nd generation) in combination with the following iPad models.
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation)
iPad Pro 11-inch
Apple Pencil (2nd generation)
1. Click the Clip Studio Paint icon and select [Modifier Key Settings].
2. Select [Common settings] on the top left of the dialog box and check [Pen/Gesture].
3. Confirm whether or not [Double-tap the stylus] is set to [Change tool temporarily] and [Settings] is set to [Eraser].
If this setting is set as above, double-tapping the Apple Pencil temporarily switches your drawing tool to the eraser.
4. Set [Change tool temporarily] to [None] to disable switching tools by double-tapping.
