How do I convert a raster layer into a vector layer?

Question

I want to convert a line drawing I drew on a raster layer into a vector layer, how do I do that?

Answer

You can convert a raster layer into a vector layer with the Convert layer function.

Procedure

1. Select the raster layer you want to convert.

2. Select Layer menu > Convert layer.

3. In the Convert Layer dialog box, set Type to Vector layer and click OK.

Note:

If you check Keep original layer, you can leave a copy of the original raster layer.

The layer will be converted.

Vector settings

If the layer doesn’t convert as you want, you can adjust it via Vector settings.

1. Change Type to Vector layer in the Convert Layer dialog box, and select Vector settings.

2. Adjust the values in Vector layer conversion settings and click OK.

For more details about these settings, please refer to the “Convert Layer” in the Instruction Manual.

Note:

If the inside of the line has gaps, increase the Maximum line width value as in the image below.
