Galaxy / Android / Chromebook: I cannot select a file or folder with the file picker

You cannot select the following types of files and folders with the file picker using Open storage, Select from storage, Add a directory, etc.

Files and folders that cannot be selected

  • Cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.)
  • External storage such as USB memory
  • Files with filenames beginning with “.”
  • Folders with names that begin with “.” and their sub-directories

Please move or rename the folders before using the file picker.

Selection folder

If you move it to a folder under the following, you will be able to select it in the file picker.

  • Internal Storage
  • SD card
  • My Files (ChromeOS only)

Note
Depending on your device, you may be able to select external storage such as a USB memory stick.
If you directly edit and save files on the USB memory stick, the files may be damaged, so move them under the folder above.

When an empty file is created

When saving a file with Select from storage, an empty file may be created if a folder or file name that cannot be selected is designated. This is a file that is automatically created by the system and can be deleted.
