Smartphone: I get the message “Failed to start Companion mode”

Make sure your device’s OS, security software and Clip Studio Paint app are all up to date before attempting to reconnect in Companion mode.

Note: close all apps before attempting to update and reconnect.



This error will appear of the versions of Clip Studio Paint on your companion device and main device differ.



Error messages

If Companion mode fails to start for any of the following reasons, please follow the steps on this page.


・The app versions are different

・The QR code cannot be read

・The connection information has been changed


Note: If the message "Please turn on Wi-Fi and check that you are connected to the same network (LAN) as the main device.” appears, refer here for assistance.



1. Update your devices

After closing the app on your main and companion devices, follow the steps to update your devices.



App

Update the Clip Studio Paint app on both your main and companion device to the latest version available.




Operating System

Update the OS of both your main and companion devices to the latest version available.

Note: Please confirm the details for your device on the following page before you update the OS.




Security Software

If you have security software installed on your devices, please update the software to the latest version provided by the developer.



2. Reconnect in Companion mode

Follow the steps on the page below to scan the QR code and reconnect your devices in Companion mode.
