I got a “This material is an old format” error message
We do not recommend using older format 3D materials in Clip Studio Paint Ver. 4.0 and later.
- Old format files are 3D character, 3D object, and 3D background materials created in Clip Studio Coordinate.
- Layers using these old format 3D materials cannot be used on macOS in Ver. 4.2 and later, or on tablets and smartphones.
Using old format 3D materials on macOS, tablets, and smartphones
To use these files in macOS, tablets, and smartphones, rasterize the layer in Windows.
Old format 3D materials can still be used on macOS devices running Ver. 4.1 and earlier.
In the Layer palette, right click on the layer with the old 3D format and select Rasterize.
How to distinguish old 3D format materials
An icon with a forbidden or warning sign will appear on old 3D format materials in the Material palette or Layer palette.

In Assets, these materials will have a note that says “This material is in a 3D material in an old format. It can only be used on Windows. (About old format 3D materials)”.
